This is the story of a young Waterford
girl in love with a poor farmer... However her greedy father sold her off to be married to a local chieftain known for his cruelty. The chieftain saw her as a trophy and kept his new wife locked in a tower, abusing her in shocking and awful ways. He would regularly cut her to make her bleed just for his own amusement. Eventually the young girl filled with despair started hiding her food, as starving herself to death was the only way she could escape her husband. When she eventually died the whole locality mourned the loss of this beautiful and gentle girl. She was buried by Strongbow's Tree. However the townspeople were so grief-stricken by the tragedy that they did not follow tradition of placing a rock on top of her grave. Her true love, the farm boy would visit her grave everyday to mourn her. While there he would curse her father (who never mourned her death, but spent his days counting the money he got from her marriage). He also cursed her husband (a husband who remarried soon after her death and never visited her grave). So there at her graveside day after day he would mourn her loss, and curse those responsible while praying for revenge. A year after her death he got his wish. The beautiful girl rose from the grave but she had changed. She found her father in her old home and murdered him and drank his blood... After this and with a new bloodlust and strength she went to find her husband... She made sure he suffered, the way he had made her suffer. After the night was through she returned to her grave but is said to return every year looking to satisfy her hunger for revenge. #irishartist #irishart #folklore #irishfolklore #andeargdue #vampire #legend #ireland #waterford #irishhistory #reginaldstower #femaleartist #celtic #lore #dungarvan #deise
